Marylands gaming establishments generated a substantial $143.8 million in September 2018, extending the state’s surge in gambling activity.
This signifies an almost 7% rise contrasted with September 2017, as reported by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, the regulatory body for the state’s six casinos. Four of the six venues witnessed earnings growth, with MGM National Harbor maintaining its position as the most lucrative by a wide margin, amassing a remarkable $54.4 million during the month. Ocean Downs Casino experienced the most significant winnings increase, with revenue soaring by nearly 14%.
However, not all casinos shared the same fate. Rocky Gap Casino and Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino both encountered minor revenue declines.
In aggregate, a considerable portion of the proceeds—approximately $44.6 million—was directly allocated to the Maryland Education Trust Fund, with supplementary funds designated to bolster the horse racing sector and local communities. Each of the six casinos in Maryland operates under private ownership and provides a combination of slot machines and table games.
