A recognizable figure from the Racing Post, Cian Nugent, will be taking over as Chair of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), following in the footsteps of Clive Hawkswood.
Hawkswood, who has led the organization since its inception in 2019, is handing over leadership to Nugent.
“I am delighted to represent our sector at such a critical juncture for betting and gaming policy and oversight,” Nugent stated.
“Our primary focuses will be education, promotion, and engaging in constructive dialogues with both the government and political figures.”
“The BGC plays a crucial role in ensuring consumers have a safe and responsible experience – something we hope to see mirrored in any updated industry regulations.”
Hawkswood, who had previously notified the board of his decision to depart, encouraged the industry to welcome the UK’s gambling law assessment – a position fully backed by the BGC.
“I informed the BGC board last fall of my plan to step down as Chair due to other obligations, understanding that I wouldn’t have the capacity to fully dedicate myself to the role once the government’s Gambling Review commenced in earnest,” he clarified.
“We have used this opportunity to structure the BGC’s agenda for the next year in anticipation of the upcoming Review, and I want to express my gratitude to all BGC members for the incredible support and assistance they have provided since its founding.”
