Allwyn, the organization poised to assume control of the UK National Lottery, has designated Mark Hughes as its inaugural Head of Security. Hughes, tasked with supervising all facets of safety and protection for the National Lottery, commences his new position on January 15th. He will integrate into Allwyn’s leadership group preceding the company’s formal takeover of the lottery on February 1st.
Hughes transitions to Allwyn from Smart DCC, an intelligent energy enterprise, where he held the position of Chief Information Security Officer. At Smart DCC, his responsibilities encompassed the secure communications infrastructure supporting the nationwide deployment of smart meters across the UK.
Before his tenure at Smart DCC, Hughes dedicated 16 years to Vodafone, ultimately ascending to the role of Head of Corporate Security for the UK. In this capacity, he oversaw corporate security protocols and compliance, collaborating closely with the UK government and intelligence services.
“Guaranteeing the ongoing security of the National Lottery is of utmost importance, particularly as we execute our ambitious modernization initiatives to propel the National Lottery into the digital era and enhance its allure for participants,” stated Allwyn UK CEO, Andrea Gisle Joosen. “I am thrilled to welcome Mark to our team.”
In his role as Head of Security, Hughes will oversee all aspects of protection for the National Lottery. This encompasses safeguarding data, ensuring fair gameplay, and even the physical safeguarding of their premises. He is fully committed to guaranteeing the lottery operates with the highest level of security.
Hughes remarked, “Joining the Allwyn team as they embark on this thrilling new chapter for the National Lottery is a true privilege. Contributing to an organization that brings such widespread happiness and supports worthy endeavors is incredibly fulfilling, and I eagerly anticipate commencing my work.”
This news follows closely on the heels of Allwyn announcing a substantial surge in both income and earnings, primarily credited to their latest acquisition of Camelot.
