The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) halted promotions from four wagering firms—LottoGo EuroMillions, William Hill Vegas, Betfair Bingo, and Dunder—due to insufficient safeguards preventing exposure to children.

These advertisements appeared in February within an application called Looney Tunes World of Mayhem, a game featuring the iconic Warner Bros. characters. The issue arose because the app allows users to acquire in-game currency by viewing advertisements, and some of these users are minors. The ASA determined that these gambling promotions violated regulations (specifically, rule 16.3.13 of the Committee of Advertising Practice code) prohibiting gambling advertisements directed at individuals under 18, which includes exercising caution regarding ad placement.

LottoGo, Dunder, and Betfair acknowledged using a third-party advertising firm, Tapjoy, and have ceased their partnership. William Hill took further action, blocking the app entirely and committing to refrain from advertising there, regardless of whether it’s through Tapjoy or any other entity. Even the application itself faced criticism for permitting these adult gambling advertisements, but they asserted it was an error that has been rectified.
